Speed, Speed, and More Speed

One of the key benefits of v7.0 code that we wrote about is satisfying customer and partner/service provider need for speed in the last mile and in the partner network.

In today’s business environment, speed counts for a lot. It is now commonplace to buy 1Gbps circuits. While many customers seldom, if ever, use over 10s of Mbps, having more speed seems like the best thing and having multiple 1Gbps circuits, or greater, is a reasonable business continuity strategy.

性知音 Version 7.0 Speed

In our internal 40Gbps testbed, we have shown that version 7.0 code enables speed increases of 10x over the current 6.x code base using customer premise equipment (CPE) configured with an affordable Intel Atom® C3558 CPU.

In internal test environments, we have delivered 3Gbps on the Intel Atom® C3558 CPE. This confirms our position that v7.0 should be able to deliver over 2.5Gbps in production.

Even More Speed! Intel® to the Rescue

One of the challenges we have faced in testing v7.0 code is the 40Gbps limit of our internal test environment, and the generation of server and customer premise CPU that we have available.

This has meant that we have not been able to test the upper limits of v7.0 code performance.

As part of our Intel® Network Builder’s benefits, we are happy to announce that through January 2024, we have deployed v7.0 code in the Intel® Test Bed.

Featuring a 100Gbps network, as well as a range of current and upcoming CPU, including codename Sapphire Rapids (the latest Intel® Xeon® server CPU), we are testing the performance of v7.0 in a pretty-much unlimited bandwidth environment.

We plan to use a combination of different Intel® CPU for core and edge nodes to determine benchmarks for top-end throughput in different configurations.

With this type of speed, new partner use-cases and deployments become realistic. It becomes practical to use multiple commodity 1Gbps circuits, or even >2Gbps circuits, to connect:

By using multiple Gigabit circuits, 性知音 SD-WAN can be deployed in more back-end networking situations to optimize costs and failover designs, extending deployment use-cases from last-mile-only to both last-mile and core scenarios.
