Getting to the Zoo & When You Arrive

Once You're Inside the Park

We Are a Hilly Park

The Flint Hills are certainly reflected in Sunset Zoo's terrain! While beautiful, it does make for steep hills in some areas; please plan accordingly when visiting. The Zoo is wheelchair accessible. However, the inclines near the gibbon exhibit / the entrance to the Asian Trail are steep. Utilize the ADA-accessible pathway at Expedition Asia for better navigation.

Zoo guests may call Guest Services at 785-587-2737 anytime during their visit for a ride back up to the zoo entrance in a zoo vehicle.

It's Getting Warm!

As Kansas temperature climb, our animals feel the heat too, When it rises above 85°F, many will choose to rest in shaded areas or cool dens, or relax in their ponds to stay comfortable. For the best chance to spot everyone, we recommend taking a full loop around the zoo a few times an checking each habitat as you go.

Water fountains and refill stations are in the gift shop, inside the Nature Exploration Center, and behind Expedition Cafe concession stand. You can also get your water bottle filled with ice water for free at Expedition Cafe or fill it with your favorite fountain or slush flavor for $2 plus tax.
