Sunset Zoo accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Google Pay, and Apple Pay at the guest services building and concession stand.

Getting Around the Zoo & ADA Access

The Flint Hills shape the zoo's landscape and create many beautiful hills. The zoo is wheelchair and ADA accessible. However, since inclines near the gibbon exhibit on the Asian Trail are steep. If you need help getting back to your vehicle, please call Guest Services at 785-587-2737.

Sunset Zoo features six ADA-accessible restrooms and five changing stations. Three are in the Nature Exploration center in the restrooms and Wild Wonders Parents room. Two are in the family restrooms near the pavilion and playground.

Rentals Available for rent at the ticket booth window:

  • Double Stroller (max weight 40 pounds): $7.00
  • Single Stroller (max weight 40 pounds): $6.00
  • Push Wagon (max weight 75 pounds): $5.00
  • Manual Wheelchair* (max weight 250 or 500 pounds): $7.00

Rentals are first come, first served and available while supplies last. Prices are listed before tax. Use at your own risk. Manual wheelchairs are available in 18'' and 20'' seats. Electric wheelchairs are not available. Strollers and wagons do not have canopies. A self-serve cleaning station with paper towels is available. Guests are encouraged to bring their own wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, wagons, and strollers.

Sunset Zoo Welcomes Nursing Parents and Guardians

Sunset Zoo's Caregivers Room is in the Wild Wonders room. It is open during regular business hours. The Parents Room includes seating, a floor rug, a child sized sink and toilet, a side table with an outlet, and a diaper trash can. If the room is occupied or unavailable call Guest Services at 785-587-2737 for an alternative space.

Expedition Cafe will be closed on 6/7/26 for fundraiser set up.

Parking

Parking is free and available in the main zoo lot across from the ticket booth. Additional parking found along Oak Street and in the overflow field across from it. ADA-approved sidewalks run along the main zoo lot. Overnight parking isn't allowed. Group and school buses should park along Oak Street.

Sunset Zoo Gift Shop

The gift shop is located at the zoo's entrance, open year-round during regular zoo hours and free to access. It offers a wide selection of toys, plush, clothing, animal art, and unique souvenirs on various species.  The shop is especially known for it's extensive plush collection, surpassing the variety of animals on exhibit.

Service Animals

Fully trained service animals (dogs and miniature horses per ADA Service Animal Requirements) are allowed at Sunset Zoo park ground and inside most buildings. Prior notice is appreciate but not required. Pets, emotional-support animals, and other animals are not permitted on grounds or inside buildings. Handlers are responsible for the care and supervision of their service animals at all times.

Sunset Zoo staff are everywhere, but they might miss some issues. If you see a distressed animals or guest behaving inappropriately towards animals, property, or others, please call Guest Services at 785-587-2737.
